By this date, Dan will publish a proposal outlining a solution to the festering dot/slash debate and solving the problems limiting the adoption of directed categories (and the concomitant abandonment of GALE_LINKS undirected categories).
At the same time, Dan will outline a schedule (this document!) describing how design and implementation work will proceed to bring Gale to a "released" point and incorporate more development resources.
After a week of discussion, Dan will make the final decision on category reform and begin implementing the necessary changes to the core Gale libraries and servers. The schedule should also be finalized (insofar as schedules are ever finalized).
At the same time, Dan will outline a set of requirements for "full release" of Gale 1.0 to the public.
Dan will finalize the release requirements after a week of discussion. Of course, these requirements will not bind anyone, but they will hopefully represent a consensus set of near-term goals designed to accelerate adoption.
At this point, the Gale protocol and library API will be 'frozen' and partially documented by Dan. Additional documentation will be added in response to questions from developers and contributed work. Ongoing development and documentation can proceed in parallel with participation by any number of interested parties.
By this time, everything described in the release requirements should be complete. (This date should help bound the scope of those requirements.) Stabilization and testing will take place during the next two weeks.
Just in time for All Saints' Day!
World domination is achieved. Luckily, most Gale users will be unaffected by the Rapture.
